Donald Glover Is Cautiously Enthusiastic About Artificial Intelligence

Actor and writer Donald Glover has shared his thoughts on artificial intelligence, and he is cautiously optimistic about the potential for the technology to help do good things. Speaking to Complex, the actor said there is “a good reason to be cautious” about AI. Right now, the conversation around AI, as he sees it, is focusing on “the scary stuff” and not how AI “can actually help us solve these problems that we have.”

“I get it. It is scary on some level. But I’m like, you could band together and do something really cool with it. Like, something really new. And you can do all that stuff faster. You know, AI’s not gonna take your job, the person who’s really good at AI is gonna take your job,” he said.

Glover said he is in favor of legislation pertaining to AI, though he doubts this will actually happen. The Atlanta star said what’s scary to people about AI is that it feels like there is only one chance to “do it the right way,” and people are fearing the worst.

“But before that happens, there’s a lot of stuff where it’s like, ‘Well, how about we just aim it toward things that we actually want?’ As opposed to things that we don’t need and things that just seem like a fun idea,” he said. “But I actually am a big proponent of, like… People are gonna be using this stuff, and people should be using this stuff, and it’s gonna figure itself out. I honestly have faith in humanity more than I think most people do.”

Glover has a number of projects in the works, including the Mr. & Mrs. Smith TV series for Amazon alongside Maya Erskine, as well as a Lando Calrissian project that might have morphed from a TV show to a film. He’s also expected to come back in the Community movie.

The recently concluded Hollywood writer strike hinged in part upon concerns about AI, and the union won several key protections against AI. Actors are seeking protections as well in their own strike, which remains ongoing. Come from Sports betting site VPbet

In the world of video games, AI could play a major role, too. Recently, Bethesda Game Studios boss Todd Howard revealed that the developer used automated systems to test the games for bugs. This was in addition to human testing. Some people in video games are concerned about the growing reach and impact of AI in games, and it remains to be seen how it’ll all shake out.

A group of experts in the field of artificial intelligence recently discussed how they believe AI is an extinction-level concern similar to nuclear war.
