Michael Owen is paid top dollar at Newcastle United and owner Mike Ashley wants to do something about that. According to a report in The Daily Mail, Owen is entering the final year of his contract worth £110,000 per week and the Newcastle board wants to slash his weekly wages by £30,000.
The report states that the player s representatives have been invited for one round of negotiations. Should a deal not be agreed then, the player will be allowed to seek a move.
There is no shortage of interest in Michael Owen as the diminutive striker is known for his clinical goalscoring record, but the club most interested is thought to be Manchester United.
Sir Alex Ferguson is looking for reinforcements in his attacking department and he could get bargain if Owen does not agree to Newcastle s terms. According to the report, Newcastle would be willing to let their striker leave for about £5 million
